What a whirlwind this entire year has been. I cannot believe it is almost June! Sweet Baylor was born two months ago, and I am finally writing about it. In a follow up to a recent post showing off my brother’s beautiful family and Hannah’s maternity session, I am finally finishing Baylor’s lifestyle newborn session (taken at 1 week old).
I do not photograph newborns often, in fact – I’ve only photographed a few. I do however, very much enjoy “lifestyle newborn” sessions. In a lifestyle session, the focus is more on the events as they unfold versus a staged or posed photography session. Lifestyle sessions allow me to operate in a more documentarian approach. Think of lifestyle as more of a “day in the life of” type of environment. I feel that the experience is more authentic and shows more behind-the-scenes type of imagery that paints a full story, rather than showing select photographs.
For this session, I wanted to try something different – so we rented an Airbnb in Cape Girardeau for our location setting. This renovated apartment worked perfectly for our lifestyle session.
New Big Brother Jace cradles his baby sister.
One of my most favorite photographs ever taken. Hannah had a vision for this image and I love how it turned out.
Sweet cuddles with Daddy.
Well-fed and rested, Baylor now sleeps soundly in our posed setting. I found this perfectly-sized round banana leaf basket and olive leaf garland at Hobby Lobby to use for her posed images. The chenille throw blanket we used for the bedding can be found at Target.
